About Roy Hurd

"Roy Hurd is the best known singer/songwriter in the Adirondacks. His appeal lies as much in his storytelling as it does his smooth vocal delivery and clear guitar work. The force of his belief is in the gentleness of his delivery."
—Adirondack Life Magazine

"Engaging, exciting, entertaining, extraordinary... just a few words I use to describe a performance by singer/songwriter Roy Hurd."
—Kim Andersen, PR Director, Lake Placid Center for the Arts

"You can feel the journey through Roy's music and lyrics. That's a rare gift. He is someone with a true identity, and one of my favorite songwriters."
—Michael Knox, Vice President, Production/Artist-Writer Development, Warner/Chappell Music

Roy Hurd's music is a breath of fresh mountain air. His listeners leave with a feeling they have just experienced an evening in the mountains listening to a real backwoods, but well-traveled storytelling song man.

Roy Hurd is a dynamic performer and a world-class singer/songwriter. In the years he has been performing, Roy has played his brand of mountain music nationally, and has developed a following unparalleled in the Adirondack Mountains. Roy's song Adirondack Blue has become a modern-day Adirondack anthem, and his recordings are regional best sellers.

Although Roy is a legendary regional treasure for the Northwoods area, his music has impact far beyond its mountain borders. Roy's songs have served to promote the earth-minded lessons that he teaches in the school program Walk on the Mountain.

Roy Hurd

From 1990 to 2001, Roy held a staff songwriting position in Nashville, writing for two of the largest publishing companies in the world: Sony Music Publishing and Warner/Chappell Music. Roy has written deftly crafted commercial country hits recorded by the likes of Paul Brant, David Kersh, Sonya Isaacs, The Oak Ridge Boys, Duane Steele, and The Gibson Brothers. Jo Dee Messina has recorded one of Roy's songs, "Nothing I Can Do," on her platinum Curb Records release "Burn." However, Roy's magic is in the songs he records himself. "Wayward Son," his latest album, shines bright with his soul and craft.

Roy has two Arts in Education programs he has developed for elementary schools. His Walk on the Mountain storytelling, music and woodland skills program has delighted children and presented them with the concept of Earth Morals for more than two decades. Roy's Rhyme Without Reason songwriting program has given young people a first hand experience in the songwriting process.
