Night Visit
Roy Hurd

On the backside of Alice mountain just above whistle pond
A night bird sang a full moon brightly shone
I was lost in the colors of the flame that danced to the song that the night bird sang
Suddenly I knew I was not alone
At the edge of the fires glow he stood silent statue still a white haired Indian man
The past was written in the lines of his face the future was in his eyes
An eagle feather lay cradled in his hand
I said Say Go Lack So Ta he nodded and sat down
In a strong but a gentle voice her softly sang

Chorus:
The same spirit of life moves in all things
It’s in the water the trees the sky and the birds that sing
Man must learn he’s a part of it all or he’s bound to feel alone
Without his children’s love or this earth as home

He spoke of the great relationship of all living things
How no one thing is more or less important than the other
He told his story of creation how this earth was made as a home
How she provides our every need just like our mother
Then I saw a tear fall from his eye heard a breaking in his voice
As he spoke of how his people love this land
With sad regret he said the biggest threat to the future of our natural world
Is the blind selfish greed of modern man
Then his song seemed to fill the sky it seemed to echo off the stars
I wish the whole world would have stopped to listen in
With his hands held towards the heavens with a reverence I’ve never seen
In prayer he set his message in to the wind

The same spirit of life moves in all things
It’s in the water the trees the sky and the birds that sing
Man must learn he’s a part of it all
Or he’s bound to feel alone
Without his children’s love or this earth as home

The same spirit of life moves in all things
It’s in the water the trees the sky and the wind as it sings
When we learn we’re a part of it all
We’ll never feel alone
We’ll have our children’s love or this earth as home

On the back side of Alice mountain just above whistle pond
A night bird sang a full moon brightly shone
